Toshiba Electronic Devices have started shipments of two low capacitance TVS diodes (DF2B5M4ASL, DF2B6M4ASL) for ESD protection and to support high-speed communication standards such as Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.1 and USB 3.1. The capacitance of the new product is typically 0.15pF, which is 25% lower than the current products.

 

Tablets, laptop PCs, game consoles, virtual reality equipment, and other high-speed signal lines have a minimized transfer time for video data or larger files by using 10Gbps or 48Gbps high-speed communication standards.  The ESD tolerances decreases due to the increasing miniaturized controller ICs used in these high-speed communications and their lack can cause critical faults such as communication errors and file damages. The parts connected to high-speed communication lines have a large effect on signals and the passive parts on printed circuit boards such as capacitors and resistors can distort signal waveforms.

 

Specification of DF2B5M4ASL and DF2B6M4ASL:

  • Small and surface-mounted package (0.62×0.32×0.3mm)
  • Clamping Voltage: 15V
  • Dynamic resistance: 0.7Ω
  • High electrostatic discharge voltage rating:    VESD= ±16kV (DF2B5M4ASL)    VESD= ±15kV (DF2B6M4ASL)
  • Maximum working peak reverse voltage:    VRWM= 3.6V (DF2B5M4ASL)    VRWM= 5.5V (DF2B6M4ASL)

The new TVS diodes reduce these influences with its lower capacitance, it also acts as a countermeasure to ESD and surges from connectors and realizes stable circuits in high-speed communications.  These Low capacitance diodes are now available for purchase from the Toshiba website.
