Cost-Effective 12V Switching Regulators Offer High Efficiency Up To 91% without Heatsinks

12V R-78E Series Switching Regulators
12V R-78E Series Switching Regulators

With the introduction of the 12V option compatible with the TO-220, RECOM extends its R-78E series of switching regulators. R-78E series acts as a more reliable and affordable switching regulator with better performance. The new 12V regulator with a rated output current of 1A continuous/2A peak up to 60°C ambient offers high efficiency up to 91% without heatsinks.

The compact regulators of the R-78E series measure just 11.6 x 8.5 x 10.4mm (L x W x H) and with 30% low losses than the competing solutions, these regulators provide cooler operation and the ‘pulse skipping’ mode maintaining high efficiency down to light loads. The parts have much lower low conducted and radiated noise than other products in the market, hence they require a small LC input filter for compliance with EN 55032 Class A or B emissions limits.

The device is protected with various features like cycle-by-cycle current limiting, short circuit, output over-voltage limiting, and automatic soft-start to reduce inrush current. The wide input voltage range of the newly added parts makes them perfect for cost-sensitive 24V industrial bus and 12V battery applications. Besides, the high peak output current capability can prove useful for powering relays, sensors, IoT radios, audio equipment, etc.
