Compact VCSEL Proximity Sensor for Superior Directivity and Light Reception with Miniaturization and Battery Enhancement
ROHM has revealed the RPR-0720, an optical sensor module utilizing a VCSEL with higher directivity compared to LEDs as the light-emitting element and a sensor IC as the light-receiving element. The module's size has been significantly reduced through optimization of the module structure using in-house chips, achieving a reduction in the area by approximately 78% measuring 2.0mm × 1.0mm. This sensor is designed to cater to applications requiring attachment/detachment and proximity detection.
The RPR-0720 features a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 4.5V for the built-in VCSEL. This eliminates the need for a peripheral voltage booster circuit when using a Li-ion battery, resulting in space savings. These space savings contribute to smaller applications and increased battery capacity, making the RPR-0720 suitable not only for attachment/detachment sensing but also for detecting various conditions across a wide range of applications.
