TDK Corporation (TSE 6762) has released the i7C series of non-isolated step-up/step-down DC-DC converters. The standout feature of these DC-DC converters is their ability to generate additional DC output voltage rails up to 300 W from a single output 12V, 24V, or 48V AC-DC power supply. The output voltage of these step-up and step-down converters can be adjusted from 5 to 28V and they accept a wide range input voltage of 9 to 53V.

The highly efficient i7C series converters accept a very wide DC input and has a wide output adjustment range. Besides, these can seamlessly transition from buck to boost mode operation without disruption in performance. Compared to similarly rated isolated DC-DC converters available in the market, these i7C offers significantly lower cost, smaller size, and higher efficiency levels.

The compact size makes these converters ideally suited to be used in medical, communications, industrial, test and measurement, broadcast, and portable battery-powered equipment.

These behave differently in different conditions. During light load conditions, the i7C’s control circuitry significantly reduces power consumption. While at zero load, the input current draw is typically just 5mA which can be reduced to around 0.25mA when the remote on-off is used to put the converter into standby. Because of the low quiescent current in these DC-DC converters, the battery-powered equipment remains functional for longer during periods of non-operation.

The thermal design of the i7C series allows for minimal output de-rating, even with low airflow conditions. The product’s design reduces the need for large external components, saving cost, and board space.

Features of i7C DC-DC Converters

  • Trim pin for output voltage adjustment
  • Remote sense
  • Remote on-off (positive or negative logic)
  • Input under-voltage
  • Over-current
  • Over-temperature protection
  • Wide range 9 to 53Vdc input
  • 5 to 28V or 9.6 to 48V output adjustment
  • Up to 97% efficient
  • Frequency Synchronization option available

These DC-DC converters are available in three mechanical configurations measuring just 36.8mm wide and 34mm in length. The 12.2mm high open-frame model is most suitable for applications requiring a very low profile. A baseplate version for conduction cooling to a cold plate is 13mm high, and models with an integral heatsink for convection or forced air cooling are 24.9mm high. A full feature Power Good signal, switching frequency synchronization, and output current monitoring option is also available. All models have safety certification to the IEC/EN 62368-1 and 60950-1 standards, with CE marking to the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.
