Automotive Grade Optical Sensors With Photodiode Output
The Optoelectronics group of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (Vishay Semiconductors) has introduced four new Automotive Grade optical sensors: the VCND2040X02, VCND2040SLX02, VCND2045X02, and VCND2045SLX02. These devices are designed to address increasing challenges in modern battery management, energy storage, and industrial automation systems by providing reliable, flexible, and wear-free optical data communication.
These innovative sensors combine an infrared (IR) emitter and a PIN photodiode within miniature 4.4 mm x 2.25 mm x 1.9 mm surface-mount packages. They enable high-speed optical communication with data transmission rates up to 6 Mbit/s between system nodes, offering a robust alternative to traditional wireless RF technologies.
A key differentiator for these Vishay Semiconductors products is their AEC-Q102 qualification, making them suitable for demanding automotive and industrial environments. Unlike RF solutions, these optical communication links are inherently immune to EMC and EMI / RFI interference and offer enhanced resilience against cyberattacks. This combination of features helps designers improve overall system reliability, safety, and performance in critical applications.
