LM709 Operational Amplifier

The LM709 series is a monolithic operational amplifier intended for general-purpose applications. Operation is completely specified over the range of voltages commonly used for these devices. The design, in addition to providing high gain, minimizes both offset voltage and bias currents. Further, the class-B output stage gives a large output capability with a minimum power drain.

Where to use LM709 Op-Amp:

The LM709 is a single Package Operational Amplifier. This IC provides high gain, minimizes both offset voltage and bias currents, Overload protection on the input and output, no latch-up when the common-mode range is exceeded, and freedom from oscillations and compensation.

Also, the device provides better accuracy and lower noise in high impedance circuitry. The low input currents also make it particularly well suited for long interval integrators or timers, sample and hold circuits and low frequency waveform generators. The class-B output stage gives a large output capability with a minimum power drain. So if you are looking for an Op-Amp IC with a single package then this IC might be the right choice for you.

How to Use LM709 Op-Amp:

The LM709 is a direct equivalent for LM741. As mentioned earlier LM709 is a single op-amp IC. The internal block diagram of this IC is shown below.

LM709 Op-Amp Internal Block Diagram

When the voltage at the non-inverting input (+) is higher than the voltage at inverting input (-), then the output of the comparator is HIGH. And if the voltage of inverting input (-) is Higher than the non-inverting end (+), then output is LOW. The output of the operational amplifier is the product of the gain and the input voltage.  LM709 has input and output compensation pins. Compensation pin is used to overcome the problems associated with frequencies in an amplifier.

Applications of LM709:

  • Digital and Analog electronics
  • Power Supplies and Mobile Chargers
  • Desktop PC and Motherboard
  • Uninterruptible Power Supplies
  • Mathematical operations
  • Amplifiers
  • Oscillators
  • Voltage Comparators
  • Washers, Dryers, and Refrigerators
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Measuring instruments
